Have you joined the #BalmainArmy? Well, the quickest way to show your love for your favorite brand is to try one of their newest lipsticks in collaboration with L’Oreal. That’s right! The Parisian brand is the latest one to throw their hat into the cosmetics ring. Creative director Olivier Rousteing just announced that Balmain will be releasing twelve makeup shades for fourteen dollars each. Much like when Jeremy Scott first announced his collaboration with Sephora, Rousteing says, “With the makeup, it’s a way to invite them to have a piece of Balmain.” With a much more affordable price, Rousteing is allowing fans of the brand who usually would not be able to buy pieces, to have something small, and allow those who live and breathe Balmain to create a head-to-to look with their products!
Not only are these lipsticks beautiful, but they come in a wide range of colors, each inspired by, and named after a model Rousteing has worked with. These models are from all around the world. Rousteing has reached past the usual central European, and American models we see gracing runway show after runway show. They hail from all around the world! For example, beautiful model, Ysaunny Brito, is represented in a safari green color. Rousteing explains, “She, to me, is my Amazon, the girl that’s going to fight and [be] strong and powerful”. Other models include Soo Joo Park from Seoul, Grace Bol from South Sudan, and Luma Grothe from Brazil.
Balmain’s creative director also made sure to express that the colors are good for every “color and culture”. I think it’s wonderful for Olivier Rousteing to say this, and for the muses behind his lipsticks to be mostly people of color, because not only are these lipstick shades daring, bold, and exciting, but they also show off a need for diversity in the fashion industry. It’s easy to miss how closed off the fashion industry can be to models of color, but this campaign shows that diversity is needed in the industry, because it’s so powerful and beautiful to see so many different kinds of people represented in one campaign.
The Balmain and L’Oreal collaboration is set to release September 20th on Barneys.com and lorealparisusa.com I can’t wait to see all the amazing makeup looks that people create with these amazing shades!
