2017 seems to be the year of cringe worthy trends getting revamped and being dubbed as the hottest trends. First it was fanny packs, then oval sunglasses, now kitten heels. Now, I’m the biggest fan of the micro-heel, but who am I to begrudge them a comeback?
I saw them first in a collaboration with Vetements and Manolo Blahnik. Vetements has displayed itself as a brand that can weirdly make any trend that we used to hate suddenly cool again. We saw that with their collaboration with Juicy Couture, making the iconic tracksuit a must have item once again.
After, I spotted them in Maria Grazia Chiuri’s first collection for Dior. The staple shoe on the runway was a small sling-back kitten heel, decorated with a branded ribbon. They went along well with the theme of the collection; re-defining femininity. Kitten heels still give their wearer a small bit of height, and are much easier to walk in than a sky high stiletto, so it made perfect sense for the collection.
Since then, they’ve been everywhere. Gigi Hadid was spotted wearing a pair, and Céline created a pair of yellow low heeled mules for their spring 2017 collection. With all of these new styles, I think my favorite kitten heel look will always be Audrey Hepburn’s in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. A close-toed alligator print shoe paired with a simple black dress, is a classic style that shows just how dainty these shoes can be!
