Summer went from being about finding a good deal, and exciting sales, to high-end luxury in a matter of moments, after the highly anticipated Louis Vuitton and Supreme collaboration launched, and pop-up shops started sprouting around the world. Sydney, Tokyo, Seoul, Paris, Beijing, Los Angeles, London, and Miami have all been blessed with a store selling the coveted merchandise. Plans for a New York store were shot down after the community board of the planned street claimed the crowds of people would upset their “quiet street”, which makes this New Yorker a little bitter.
However, the complaint is a bit understandable. When the London store opened, it was said that even at the opening time, 10 AM, there were already around 400 people waiting outside for their time in the store. Everyone was allowed fifteen minutes in the store and was only allowed to buy six items total. Though this collaboration has a wild amount of hype, no pictures or press are allowed in the store, to keep up with Supreme’s anti-hype regime. Outside the stores, people were already selling the items, doubling the asking prices for pocket knives, bomber jackets, scarves, and even keychains.
The collaboration is nothing short of ingenious. Though it seems like a rather odd pairing. Louis Vuitton is a legendary brand, known for their high-quality products, oozing luxury and opulence, while Supreme is a New York born streetwear brand inspired by skateboarders. However, it works in an interesting way. The mix of the classic high-end French style, with an effortlessly cool New York style, is so unexpectedly brilliant, because both brands are so in demand, that the collaboration was due for success the moment it was announced. I can’t wait to hear more about the hype for all of the items, and see what interesting outfits stem from these products.
