Sometimes designers will release things that have us instantly freaking out about how over the top or ridiculous they are, for example, when Moschino released a collection full of McDonald’s and Spongebob references, or when Chanel released a lightup handbag. Sometimes, however, brands will release release things that have us confused, on whether we think they’re amazing or absurd, like YSL’s new roller-skate high heels.
On one hand, they’re ironically amazing, because of how unnecessary and impractical they are. They’re the kind of thing you buy because you can, not for function. But on the other hand, why? Who are these for? There is no possible way anyone can actually move around in them, and why in the world would anyone need a pair of roller pumps? “The Girl On the Go” and “Woman Who’s Trying To Have It All” aren’t so desperate that they’re ready to roll an ankle We can all agree that the shoes themselves are stunning. The mix of leathers and textures, and different colors are positively electrifying. And, YSL did also release some sneaker-style roller-skates that seem a bit safer to buy.
Nonetheless, they certainly are interesting, and whether you think these stilettos are the best thing in the world, or the complete opposite, Saint Laurent made something that is sure to become iconic within the coming years.
