PRE-FALL 2018 Victoria Beckham

As one of the world’s most famous frequent fliers, Victoria Beckham always has plenty of travel inspiration to draw from. This season, the designer’s imagination was sparked by a recent trip to Tanzania with her family. You didn’t have to look too far to see traces of her week-long vacation in her new collection: the novelty print for VVB featured all of the impressive wildlife you’d expect to find on safari—lions, tigers, zebras. More subtle interpretations of the theme appeared in the denim department, specifically on an indigo blue Texas tuxedo that was cut like a safari suit. Beckham loves a good pajama suit more than most, and she applied that languid elegance with a feminine hand, pairing breezy silk pajama shirts with knee-grazing pleated skirts.

There was some new experimentation in the outerwear department as well, including reversible shearling jackets with an appealingly tomboyish silhouette, and a new category of outerwear that Beckham is calling “the Shacket,” a combination of shirt and jacket as the name would suggest. As the framework for traditional seasons begins to dissolve altogether, these kind of unconventional layering solutions are bound to become the norm. If you’re wondering what Ms. Beckham is planning to wear on her next far-flung voyage in 2018, then keep your eye on the baggy navy pants and highlighter-orange shirting in this collection. They’ve already made her packing list.
