New York Fashion Week is officially underway, bringing designers, editors, celebrities and fashion insiders back across Manhattan for one of the industry’s most anticipated weeks of the year.
Running officially from September 10 through September 15, the Spring 2027 season combines major American fashion names with rising talent, notable homecomings and several highly anticipated debuts. With around 70 runway shows and presentations on the official calendar — plus countless off-calendar events, parties and activations — New York is once again becoming fashion’s biggest stage.
This season also marks an important shift for the industry, as the Council of Fashion Designers of America implements its new fur-free policy across the official NYFW schedule.
The Week Began Before the Official Calendar
As has become tradition, several major brands got an early start before the official opening.
Ralph Lauren, Coach, Cult Gaia, J.Press, Libertine and Rachel Comey all presented on September 9. For Comey, the occasion carried extra significance as the designer celebrated the 25th anniversary of her namesake brand.
The early presentations set the tone for a season balancing established New York institutions with a rapidly evolving generation of designers.
Henry Zankov Begins a New Era at Diane von Furstenberg
One of the biggest stories of Spring 2027 is Henry Zankov’s debut as artistic director of Diane von Furstenberg.
Zankov, who was appointed to the position in May, opened the official schedule with his first collection for the legendary American fashion house. The appointment represents a new chapter for DVF, a brand synonymous with New York glamour, confidence and the iconic wrap dress.
Zankov will also present the Spring 2027 collection for his own label later in the week, making this NYFW an especially significant moment in his career.
Zaldy Makes His Official NYFW Debut
Another highly anticipated newcomer to the official calendar is Emmy-winning designer Zaldy.
Known for creating dramatic stage costumes for artists including Lady Gaga and RuPaul, Zaldy has spent years shaping some of entertainment’s most memorable fashion moments.
After presenting his debut menswear collection, Boys Like Me, at Hotel Chelsea earlier this year, he now officially joins the NYFW calendar with a September 14 presentation positioned between Zankov and Diotima.
More Designers Making Their Mark
The season also brings several other important debuts.
Polish designer Magda Butrym will celebrate the opening of her first New York flagship with a runway show on September 13, strengthening the brand’s growing presence in the U.S. luxury market.
Heirlome, the 2025 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund runner-up, is also joining the official schedule, along with 6397, the cult-favorite label founded by Stella Ishii as an extension of her New York showroom, the News.
Together, they reflect the increasingly international and independent spirit shaping New York fashion.
Emerging Designers Continue to Define the City
Beyond the major fashion houses, some of the most exciting ideas of NYFW continue to come from emerging designers.
Mel Usine, Grey’s and knitwear designer Aisling Camps are among the young labels presenting new collections this season.
Zoe Gustavia Anna Whalen, recognized for her sculptural and dramatically distorted corsetry, is also returning, while Emily Dawn Long is taking a different approach to the traditional fashion-week format. Instead of presenting a conventional runway show, Long will unveil her latest work through a film screening on September 12.
Other designers gaining attention include Giovanna Flores, Sanderlak and Meruert Tolegen.
The presence of these independent voices has become increasingly important to New York Fashion Week, helping maintain the experimental energy that has historically defined the city’s creative community.
Conner Ives Comes Home to New York
One of the season’s most anticipated homecomings belongs to Conner Ives.
The New York native has shown during London Fashion Week since 2022 after moving to the United Kingdom in 2014 to study at Central Saint Martins.
Now, after becoming one of London’s most closely watched young designers, Ives is returning to his hometown and presenting at NYFW for the first time on September 12.
For New York fashion, his return represents the kind of creative homecoming the city has been eager to celebrate.
Sabyasachi Returns Nearly Two Decades Later
Indian luxury designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee is also returning to New York, nearly 20 years after his first presentation in the city.
His return coincides with the beginning of a multiyear collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
As part of the partnership, Sabyasachi will draw inspiration from the museum’s vast collections, creating handcrafted fine-jewelry pieces in India before presenting them in New York.
The first chapter of the collaboration, inspired by Byzantine and Roman art, will be revealed during the designer’s September 15 NYFW show.
Major New York Names Return
Several established designers are also returning to the calendar this season.
Tommy Hilfiger, Monse and threeASFOUR are back, along with Luar, which skipped the February schedule but remained firmly within pop-culture conversation after dressing Lady Gaga for her appearance during Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance.
Thom Browne is also returning to New York following his Fall 2026 presentation in San Francisco. His show will close the official Spring 2027 schedule.
NYFW Goes Fur-Free
Perhaps the most significant industry-wide development this season is the introduction of the CFDA’s fur-free policy.
Beginning with Spring 2027, designers participating on the official NYFW calendar are prohibited from using animal fur in their collections.
The policy was announced in December following years of discussions involving the CFDA, Humane World for Animals and Collective Fashion Justice. Designers were given a nine-month transition period to adapt their sourcing and production practices.
The change marks another major moment in fashion’s ongoing conversation around sustainability, animal welfare and responsible luxury.
NYFW Honors the 25th Anniversary of September 11
The Spring 2027 calendar also includes a meaningful gesture of remembrance.
On September 11, runway shows begin at 10:00 a.m., with the traditional 9:00 a.m. slot intentionally left empty in recognition of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
In a city where fashion and culture are deeply intertwined, the decision creates a moment of reflection within an otherwise fast-paced week.
The Designers Missing From the Calendar
Even with several major returns, some familiar New York names are absent this season.
Peter Do and Helmut Lang are not part of the Spring 2027 calendar, while Willy Chavarria continues to present his collections in Paris.
Their absence highlights the increasingly global nature of the fashion-week system, where designers are becoming less tied to the cities traditionally associated with their brands.
